Hello friends and happy Friday! Lucy and I are enjoying a quiet afternoon, watching it rain, and hoping it clears off in time for Charlie’s lacrosse tournament this weekend. We don’t usually have “mud season” here, but we’ll get a little taste of it tomorrow! Here’s what else is going on right now:
Thinking about … a nap! I was up later than usual the past two nights – a meeting (see below), a book I really wanted to finish, and bookclub – and I think a quick 30-minutes would be helpful before the weekend kicks off.
Grateful for … a weekend of Mother’s Day celebrations. Sara and Katie (and Katie’s family) are coming over tonight for a family dinner. They’re bringing the food, the wine, the people! and it’s going to be a fun and lively celebration. Sunday, my sister and I are taking brunch to our mom’s. It is truly a gift to be able to share Mother’s Day – in person! – with both my girls and my mom.
Inspired by … our monthly Moms Demand Action local chapter meeting this past Wednesday evening. There were quite a few new faces (I had several opportunities to practice my elevator speech) and a lot of energy. We will be gathering tomorrow afternoon to wave signs at a busy intersection. Next Tuesday, the City Council of neighboring Cumming will be reading a Wear Orange Proclamation and the town’s water tower will be lit up orange to honor survivors of gun violence. Our chapter will be attending, wearing all our orange. and finally, June 4, we’re hosting a Wear Orange family picnic. We also contacted our congregational representative about renewing the ban on assault weapons. Being part of a team makes all these little actions easier … and I hope seeing a crowd of red or orange shirts encourages others to get involved.

Finished … my striped sweater! It actually debuted in Thomasville (on Friday; I was wearing it in the rose show rejects photo), but I wore it again today for “official” FO photos. I’m so happy with how it turned out! Heidi’s original design was for a much looser, longer fit, with wider stripes and long sleeves. I chose a lighter-weight yarn (Berroco Remix Light), knit at a gauge I like (~6st/in). I was able to follow the pattern for a larger size (and adding more rows) and it worked beautifully. Also, two-row stripes are so much fun to knit – there aren’t a bunch of ends to weave in, and counting rows is easy!

Wishing you the best weekend possible, with one last glimpse of mid-May around here. I snapped this photo yesterday … the magnolias blooming, and they smell like summer.

Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours. Your weekend plans sound wonderful. I love the striped sweater. It looks perfect for your climate. And the columbine are so pretty.
Good luck with your rally against assault weapons. I truly hope that it will help get things moving in the right direction in your legislature.
A little early, but happy Mother’s Day.
The magnolia is lovely but those purple columbine up top really catch my eye. I hope you have a good Mother’s Day weekend!
Sounds like a fun line up for your weekend! Happy Mother’s Day!
I hope you enjoy all that wonderful family time this weekend! I took quick power naps every afternoon this week and it made such a difference (and is definitely one of the best perks of working from home).
Your Mother’s Day sounds beautiful!
Happy Mother’s Day Mary. Your weekend plans sound like fun (anad tasty!!). We spent today with my brother and SIL in DE – sailed on a tall ship and had a delightful lunch together. I just woke up from a nap (needed after the long car ride home…).
I hope your weekend has been wonderful so far! Thank you for your work with Moms Demand Action – I hope the rally is a good one.
Thank you for all of these flowers! That columbine is gorgeous – I hope ours comes back this year!!
You make such a great point, Mary — that taking action feels so much more, I don’t know, doable(?) in numbers. What feels daunting (certainly) feel more,,,empowering and powerful.
And I hope you enjoyed those very special MD celebrations with your mere and your filles!
I hope your weekend was wonderful, Mary! Mother’s Day can be a really bittersweet day for many people, so you are indeed fortunate to be able to spend it with both your mother AND your daughters! XO
A jam packed weekend of great stuff! Love those flowers in the banner.
Happy mother’s day to you! so glad you were able to spend it with family. Your sweater is fantastic! I need to step up my knitting game, that baby will be here before you know it.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mary!! xoxo
