TGIF | Late October.

Hello friends and Happy Friday! I spent an hour on the porch this afternoon watching a replay of Modern Mrs Darcy’s Fall Book Preview and knitting. Shifty. of course.

Thinking about … feeling stuck. and how holding things loosely also means letting things go. hoping I can get my head (and heart) around all that enough to write about next week for October’s OLW link-up.

Grateful for … a fun knitting project. It’s been a long time since I’ve been monogamous to a project. That probably says as much about what I’m doing these days as it does the knitting. Here’s a better photo of the whole sweaterI plan on four more bands after this (purple) one – two gold, one blue/green, and one gray. and then the ribbing. and then two sleeves (but those will be quick, right?!)

Inspired by … that Modern Mrs Darcy video and my bookshelf to start thinking about what I’ll read next. Immediately up next are these three books –a new release with a surprisingly short hold wait, and the last two books for the NBA Fiction short list. I’ve really enjoyed reading the Booker and NBA short lists, and I’m excited to read other things! I have a few new releases (Lincoln Highway, Harlem Shuffle, Still Life, The Madness of Crowds) on my shelf already and one more on order (The Sentence). and there are more … and a bunch of backlist I just haven’t gotten to. It seems my book queue has finally overtaken my knitting queue!

Fun! … Marc’s nephew Justin and his bride JuliaΒ said “I do” last weekend in California … and they’re in Atlanta this weekend to attend another wedding. Katie is hosting a little brunch tomorrow morning and I’m beyond delighted for an opportunity to meet the bride and celebrate them in person! and bonus points that also means an opportunity to see my two favorite (little) boys πŸ™‚

Wishing you a weekend with at least a few bonus points!

  1. I totally get the “stuck” feeling, I too feel that way at times. Your Shifty is looking lovely and I can’t wait to see it finished! Enjoy your family time this weekend 😊

  2. What a gorgeous pair of newlyweds! And one adorable dog… How nice that the wedding is coming to YOU (in a way!). Enjoy the time together. And…I’m just a little jealous that you have Lincoln Highway already πŸ™‚ I’ll be eager to here!

  3. I’ve been feeling stuck for a while, too, mostly due to some chronic pain issues. Things are a bit improved lately and that definitely helps. This is a good list of Friday things, Mary!

  4. Your weekend sounds wonderful! I’ve got Cloud Cuckoo Land and Harlem Shuffle and The Island of Missing Trees on my bookcart just waiting for time to read them. Plus, I need to catch up with my Middlemarch reading. Your knitting progress is amazing. I can’t finish anything!

  5. That sweater is so pretty. I do like the colors. Have fun this weekend. And being “stuck” – that feels so familiar to me this past year or so.

  6. I know you keep denying it, but I really do think you’re going to finish your Shifty long before I do, despite the fact that I cast mine on before you did! (Are you going to do short or long sleeves?)

I know that I can’t keep up with trying to read all the short lists, but I’ve got many of those titles on hold (with long waits), and I’m sure I’ll get to them eventually. The good news for me is that you will read them first, and I know you’ll be happy to tell me which I must read and which I can skip.

  7. What a great weekend to be in Atlanta-the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Maybe their visit was our lucky charm for getting into the World Series! Am happy to report that Summer Shirt has been tried on and fits! Now it’s swoosh through stockinnete in the round!

  8. I do like the colors in your Shifty, and also understand feeling stuck. I’ve only been able to make little changes to try and feel un-stuck, like reading a book or two that isn’t my usual fare, making something different for dinner (in actuality I’m beginning to clean out the freezer in MD), and knitting a sweater. Hope you can begin to feel less stuck, too!

  9. What a beautiful bride! (and that adorable pup!!) This has been the Year of Letting Go for me…and it has not been easy at all. I hope you find some peace as you move through these days.

You are just flying on your sweater! (I am hoping Sarah shares a snapshot of her’s again soon!) This just is an amazing pattern!

  10. I finally feel unstuck – so hopefully you will too sooner than later. I am inspired to knit all the things πŸ™‚ Lovely knitting!!

  11. The sweater is looking great, Mary! You are just CRANKING that out!!!! πŸ™‚ (And, yeah. Sleeves. SOOO quick. Nothing to it.) Here’s to getting unstuck! πŸ™‚
