FO Friday | Donner.

Happy Friday, friends!

I’m delighted to be wearing that second black sweater I cast on in a flurry of optimism after finishing Classic Black last month … for the second time! It debuted on Monday, just in time for a “Katie photoshoot” (she and the boys came over for lunch). Her finished photos are still my favorite … she gets photos and knitting!

project details on Ravelry here

Black is really hard to “get right”, and you’ll see in the photos that it goes from very dark (like above) to almost a washed out grayIt’s all the same sweater, and it’s a true black in real life.

I was way in between sizes on this one – needed a size 3 for the body and a size 1 for the arms. I also shortened the body a lot – the finished length is about 12″. AND I couldn’t be happier with the fit and the feel. Sam asked why I was wearing my pajamas, and you know, he had a point!

My favorite detail (apart from how well it fits) is the backThat braid, and the short rows that shape the shoulders. Elizabeth Doherty is a genius and I love her designs (by the way, did you see her latest? )

Of course even Katie’s genius behind the camera can’t keep me looking great all the time. ♥ for outtakes!

Finally, inspired by sharing an FO post today – and the birth of a precious little one last week – I finished another Lilly Rose (Ravelry link). All babies are a joy to knit for … and baby girls are just plain fun.

Wishing you a weekend filled with as much joy and fun as you can find. Let’s make it the best one available!

  1. Beautiful Donner Mary! And it suits you perfectly! I’m busy working on a 2nd Musselburgh hat using self striping yarn, which is a lot of fun (continuous television stockinette) to have going.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Ruthanne (in Seattle)

  2. What a lovely sweater, Mary. And you’re right — Elizabeth Doherty’s patterns are genious! I’m digging through my yarn to see if I have anything suitable for her new design. . .

  3. Beautiful, Mary! I looks like a super comfy sweater! (and I laughed right out loud at the pajama pants comment!)

  4. What a beautiful sweater. I like the shorter length. Our son drove in to work remotely before we drive over to my brother’s memorial service. I wish my brother was here with us but I so enjoyed the day hanging out with our son and having dinner with him this evening. He came in late Saturday so it was a good weekend.

  5. It’s absolutely fantastic on you! (And her new sweater is amazing — have to check that one out!) I knit one of her sweaters for my very first Rhinebeck sweater and happened to meet her in the booth. She is such a nice person in addition to being a talented designer!

  6. You look wonderful in this – a style that is right up my own street :). Sarah does indeed take great photos … Giggled at the pyjama comments!
