Hello friends and Happy Friday. I finished a sweater this week, a sweater that’s a blend of wool, silk and mohair with a mock turtleneck. It was feels like 56 degrees this morning. and surely that means today was meant for an FO post!
Here’s my Classic Black, styled pretty much the way I plan to wear it this fall and winter (maybe with boots come winter?)
The pattern is Espace Tricot’s The Classic (Ravelry link) and I followed it exactly (I even got gauge on the first try with a size 6 needle!) except for shortening the sleeves by about 2″ and adding in a few sleeve decreases (see my Ravelry project here for details).
I’m wearing that sweater without anything (except a bra) underneath. Knitpicks Gloss Fingering and Aloft held together is that soft!
Espace Tricot’s designers love positive ease. My body does not. at least not always. The proportions of this design work. I had Marc take a photo showing just how big the sweater is:
This is about 8-9″ of positive ease. I think the short length is key – the front is about 12″ and the back is 14″ (it’s hard to tell in the photos, but the hem is split and the back is 2″ longer).
I might be making plans to knit another Classic (Christmas red? winter white?) … and I’m for sure making plans to knit another black sweater! Inspired by Elizabeth Doherty’s Sweater Week, I ordered black linen to knit Donner (Ravelry link). I need to swatch and do some calculations before the yarn arrives, hopefully on Wednesday. and until then, I’m knitting another Lilly Rose Dress (Ravelry link) for a baby due in early October. 
Of course it wouldn’t be an FO post without the outtakes … seriously, I don’t know how Marc puts up with me!
and finally, I can’t not acknowledge the 20th anniversary of September 11 … tomorrow. The Presbytery of Greater Atlanta shared this message yesterday. Let’s be tender with our hearts and with each other.
“In scripture, we are reminded to not only rejoice with those who rejoice but to weep with those who weep. We know that the past 18 months have been filled with moments of difficulty, grief, and loss. Our hearts are tender for those whose lives have been forever changed from the tragic events of 9/11. We pray for all who mourn, we pray for continual healing of the bereaved, and we pray for new life that continues to grow despite loss and pain.”

It’s perfect! I honestly did not realize it had that much ease — it doesn’t look like that much at all! I think it helps that the fabric has a good amount of drape.
The Classic looks fantastic on you! I have Donner in my favorites and you know the Lilly Rose dress is in the closets of most of my great nieces!

What a beautiful sweater. I predict you will wear it often (in cooler weather of course.) I love the idea of being tender with our own hearts and with others. Once upon a time, my word for a year was tender. The thoughts stay with me.

Black is my go to color. As my brother-in-law would say – it just simplifies things. (His color is orange!) Lovely, lovely sweater Mary. And beautiful words. I watched some of the names being read on Saturday and it was just as heartbreaking as it was 20 years ago.
