Hello friends! Thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post; it does seem like Autumn is a favorite and most-welcome season for many of us. This past week has been full of delightful blue skies and cooler temperatures. The photos spread throughout this post were captured on various morning walks (and yes, leaves have started changing, even this far south!) My week away (from this space … I still haven’t spent a night away from home in over a year!) was definitely much-needed. I’ve been looking forward to writing this post since yesterday, and that’s the surest … Continue reading Choose | September 2021.
I’ve been in a weird place lately, not feeling like myself. I can’t seem to keep the days straight, which is just not me. I’m attributing some of this to the weather. It has rained for days. My Thursday tennis match was cancelled, and we finally played it yesterday. I had to juggle a few things to make that work, and then Tuesday felt like Thursday, and thank goodness I remembered today was actually Wednesday, because pantry deliveries. Yikes, those seniors don’t need my scatterbrained self forgetting to deliver their groceries! I’m attributing the rest of it to just being … Continue reading Hello Autumn.
It’s been a while since I paused on a Friday afternoon to share a post through the TGIF lens … I’ve been thinking all day about the T-G-I-F and this afternoon it all came together. The title says “Mid-September”, but this is really “September 17”. Thinking about … stories. I keep seeing a theme in the books I’m reading this year about who tells the stories and the stories they (get to) choose to tell. memory. power. privilege. history. I’ve come to a whole new appreciation for memoir and unreliable narrators. My church has been hosting a seminar on “Story … Continue reading TGIF | Mid-September.
Well, these last few days flew by. Here’s a brief glimpse of what that looked like though my iPhone camera and here’s the longer story through another Currents update. Celebrating SEVEN!! with Charlie and his family and friends this past weekend. (also Saying Thank You we live close enough to be there in person for a two-hour party). Laughing About how fun it is to have a September birthday at the pool! Our girls had November and January birthdays … we bowled, we skated, we dressed up for Halloween, we never once dreamed of swimming! Embracing this last stretch of … Continue reading Currents | September 2021.
Hello friends and Happy Friday. I finished a sweater this week, a sweater that’s a blend of wool, silk and mohair with a mock turtleneck. It was feels like 56 degrees this morning. and surely that means today was meant for an FO post! Here’s my Classic Black, styled pretty much the way I plan to wear it this fall and winter (maybe with boots come winter?)The pattern is Espace Tricot’s The Classic (Ravelry link) and I followed it exactly (I even got gauge on the first try with a size 6 needle!) except for shortening the sleeves by about 2″ … Continue reading FO Friday | Classic Black.
I added another 24 books to my Read shelf last month, bringing my YTD total to 137 (Goodreads link). My current book journal is going to be full before the end of September at this rate! Here are a few more stats from August’s book journal summary page: two-thirds – just like the last two months – (16/24) were words on a page (I’m pretty sure is the sole explanation for my slower knitting pace!) two-thirds (16/24) were borrowed, one I owned, and seven were purchased (three “new”, and four “used” or on sale). four were non-fiction, including two memoirs, … Continue reading Reading Better | August.
Hello friends and happy Friday! Today I’m delighted to share that promised frozen watermelon cocktail. Enjoy! Watermelon Berry Smoothie (inspired by Honest Cooking) 1 oz berry-thyme syrup and 1 oz stewed berries (see below) 1 oz lemon juice (1/2 lemon) 1 C frozen watermelon cubes 1-1/2 oz gin (or vodka or, for a mocktail, lemonade – I’d use 3 oz of lemonade and omit the lemon juice) Combine everything in a blender and blend until smooth. Garnish with a few blueberries and a sprig of thyme, if desired. Stewed Berries with Thyme (makes enough for several smoothies – feel free to … Continue reading Cheers | Watermelon Berry Smoothie.
“Time is behaving strangely. Sometimes an afternoon goes on for days and then a whole week will disappear altogether and I’ll find it’s Friday again …” ~Mary Lawson, A Town Called Solace Looking back at these photos I have a hard time even remembering that first week of August … my last matching book/manicure (I’m giving my nails some needed R&R and anticipate resuming the polish routine next week), Tosca in HD on the 4th was a real treat! And then … a lot of sticking close to home. Morning walks with a new place to pause by the lake … Continue reading Looking Back | August.
