Thankfully, there hasn’t been any unraveling this week, but there also hasn’t been much knitting! as in – yikes! – whole days without even one stitch. I’m still working on the pocket openings on Bodie.
I took that photo last night and added a few more rows before I decided to pickup a project that didn’t require quite so much attention. But just two rows in, the needle broke! Thankfully, I was able to rescue all the stitches; this morning I transferred everything to another needle and all is good. Whew. Slow forward progress….
That “other project” is a Traveling Woman for a friend who’s having surgery next week for breast cancer. The yarn is from my mother-in-law’s stash – a gorgeous magenta merino wool. She was a breast cancer survivor and I think she’d be quite pleased with how I’m using the yarn. Bodie is getting a little too big to travel well, so the shawl has been going out with me. I had a few minutes at Starbucks yesterday with it (so glad the needle didn’t break there!) and of course I had to pause for a photo.
On the reading front, I started that Jane Austen mystery (more time away from knitting!) and it’s quite enjoyable.
Hop on over to Kat’s to see what others are knitting and reading!
Some weeks are just so busy and a traveling project is good to have at hand. Knitting for others is one of my favorite things to do and is always a welcome gift for a friend.
Ooo! that pink yarn is lovely and I am sure it will be much appreciated. But, broken needles! Boo! May your knitting time increase and your knitting troubles decrease! XO
It's hard to imagine whole days in your life without knitting a stitch, but you make up for it in the long run! Bodie looks beautiful in front of the tree, and I'm sure you're knitting hope, health, and caring into that lovely magenta shawl. I'm sending good wishes for your friend.
Glad you were able to rescue your stitches – moments like that are always terrifying for knitters!
I'm sure your friend is going to love her Traveling Woman. What a wonderful gift and a world of positive thoughts sent her way.
The magenta shawl will be so lovely (well, it already is). Sending healing wishes for your friend. And Bodie is just lovely. Hoping you get a bit more time to knit (without issues).
I listened to the Jane Austen mystery last Christmas season & enjoyed it. So glad you're liking it!
December is One Busy Month! Your friend will so appreciate the beautiful shawl you're making for her. What a special gift, Mary — a hug from a friend is always welcome (especially in lovely, cheery, magenta yarn). XOXO
Your friend will be so happy with that shawl you are knitting for her, gifts from the heart always mean so much! This is such a busy month that I have to remind myself to take some quiet moments each day to reflect and enjoy it all.
That is such a cheery color for the shawl you're knitting, and I hope it brings comfort to your friend. I'll be sending positive thoughts her way. Rescue all the stitches is something I hope I never have to do but I guess if you knit long enough it is bound to happen. : ) Bodie is looking lovely!
hope you get more knitting time, my knitting time has suffered greatly, I'm either babysitting or coming from the gym kind of exhausted..I need to get serious about the knitting.
Ditto all the above comments! Never heard of a knitting needle breaking…but, why not? I love the pink for your friend. Bless her and sending the best to her.Cheers~
I can relate to the days without knitting. I'm hoping those won't occur to many more times over the next couple weeks!
