Unraveled Wednesday | Travel Knitting.

Remember when I posted a few weeks back about the knitting I had planned for the trip? I asked y’all to weigh in on how much of it I might actually finish … and Patty guessed right with “very little”!

I did start 2nd Avenue on the plane and made it an inch or so into that first pink section before we landed. I also worked a little on Whiskyfied. 2nd Avenue saw a little more play time in Vancouver. Then Whiskyfied was the first project I pulled out on board. It was the morning of our first day at sea, and it was a little rough. In hindsight, a chart and a project to pay close attention to was not the best choice. I haven’t picked it up again since! I also never started the socks. There was indeed, very little knitting.

I just looked back through all the photos and found evidence of knitting in only three of them – and none from the cruise!

This is the Saturday we were in Anchorage – a full ten days after I started and I’m still only on the second pink section.

me and Lydia – twinning!

And this is Monday night, on the flight home (the third photo was taken about 15 minutes later, so there’s no real progress to show :-).

I finally finished that gold section Wednesday

and started the speckled part Thursday.

This morning, I started the final section – nine rugby stripes (eight more to go)!

Then a garter edge and a picot bind off in pink. I’m hoping to take a finished scarf with me next week when I fly to Madison. Pre-Alaska me might’ve planned to wear it this weekend (and likely would’ve done it). Post-Alaska me, well…of course I do have a 15 hour road trip in my future. Next week I’ll share my plans for that (and hopefully an FO).

Joining in with Kat and friends. Happy knitting and happy Wednesday!

  1. Hooray for very little knitting! You can knit any time at home, but you can only see Alaska in Alaska! I love that understated speckle and will look forward to your WI–>NY planned knitting.

  2. I'm glad there was so much to do that you didn't get much done! And I must tell you…you are always my inspiration for flight wine. 🙂 And…the last three times I've ordered it they've not charged me! Yes!

  3. Yay for little vacation knitting – just means it was a great time with plenty of other things to do! both of your projects are so pretty. Looking forward to seeing the FOs and to hear your travel knitting plans for your upcoming Mother-Daughter road trip!!

  4. Vacation knitting is a funny thing – it's great for just laying on a beach but when you're doing the sightseeing you must have been doing it's completely understandable that you didn't knit all that much!

  5. It seems I always pack knitting when I travel . . . and then never knit a stitch (except on beach vacations, where there is much kicking back and relaxing). I think it's a GOOD thing to take breaks from knitting — and especially when there's so much to see and do on a vacation. XO

  6. I was smiling when I read that your busy hands were otherwise occupied…tho' the setup on the plane looks inviting. Love the scarf you're making for your two cross countries next week…knit on!Cheers~

  7. I thought I'd get more done on the train rides-didn't realize I'd be looking for wildlife! Always best to over plan anyway-right?!

  8. In Alaska you would have had so much more to see than the knitting in your hands. How nice to enjoyed the trip and didn't need to have your knitting as a distraction.
