More Blooms.

…from Florida.

I walked by this house a few times before I noticed what was blooming in the front bed. Yes indeed – amaryllis! in May!
Of course I knew y’all would want to see, too. One evening, the gentleman who owned the house was outside watering so I could ask if it would be ok to get up close for a few photos. He smiled and said sure (and I’ll bet he was thinking “crazy”).
It was hard to capture the red, but you get the idea.
The two-toned ones were easier to photograph and simply stunning.
Once I knew to look for them, I saw amaryllis growing in many yards. I guess it’s not as uncommon as it seemed at first (or at least not uncommon in central Florida).

  1. I saw amaryllis growing outside in Charleston at Magnolia Plantation and I thought of you and Bonny and Kym! Those are lovely, thanks for taking photos and sharing them with us.

  2. We have a couple of potted tropical plants in the greenhouse window at work. I remember brushing up against a HEDGE at the botanical garden in Rio de Janeiro, and being stunned when I recognized it as one of the same!!

  3. Glad you made it back from FL safely. Gorgeous flowers. My MIL used to grow them outside in Virginia!! (up against the house where it was a bit more protected)

  4. Wow! I had no idea they grew anywhere "in the wild". How fun to see their exceptional blossoms in someone's yard.

  5. Wow – I had no idea! These are quite amazing, and I also like that funny fern-like plant behind the red and white ones. Gardening really is different in a warmer/tropical climate. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Oh those red and white ones are especially beautiful! And would look so lovely near my red house! Thanks Mary!
