Today’s Think Write Thursday topic is to look out a window you don’t normally look out of and tell us what you see. I kind of cheated. I did do the “don’t normally look out” part – but I knew what I’d see.
I snapped this photo from Charlie’s bedroom window just after I put Sam down for his last nap of the day*
That sign is in their front yard; and yep, they’re moving. Three weeks from today.
They’re moving 25 miles away. back into town. 25 miles closer to Katie’s work**. They’ll also be a lot closer to fun things to do like the Botanical Gardens, the Children’s Museum, the Aquarium, the Center for Puppetry Arts and I’m sure we’ll find more.
I know 25 miles isn’t another state, but – especially on Atlanta highways – it’s a big deal. After the move, I (we!) won’t be spending Tuesdays here with Charlie or Thursdays here with Sam. I do plan to see both boys (and their parents) on a regular basis … but we’re going to let things settle a bit before we figure out a new routine.
And you know it will be a very little bit because I don’t think I can go more than a week without seeing this in real life.
*not to confuse y’all – I pick Sam up in the morning and we spend the day at my house … until just after his 3pm bottle. Then we head back to his house, so he can have a good nap in his own bed (instead of a carseat), before the family gets home for dinner.
**she works at Coca-Cola’s headquarters and she’ll have a 15 minute commute. a real life changer!

This was the perfect way to share this glad/sad news. I am glad that Katie will have a much shorter commute, but I know I am going to miss seeing Tuesdays with Charlie and Thursdays with Sam, so I can only imagine how much you will miss your special days with the boys. I am glad it's not farther and I know you'll certainly be part of their lives on a regular basis. I'm looking forward to plenty of photos over the next three weeks!
So happy for them, sad that you won't have your days with those beautiful grandchildren. I love Atlanta!
That is a tough one. But I know you will work it out! I think you are a "cheerful no matter what" kind of person!
That must feel like a very big change for you and I'm sure it will be for Katie and her family, too. I hope the move goes smoothly and the boys adjust quickly to their new home and schedule. And yes, you're allowed to feel like it's a big deal.
It is a big deal for sure! Like others, I'm glad Katie's commute will be shortened, but I know you will miss the routine. I'm sure y'all will figure out pretty quickly a new routine that works for you. It's just another adventure and thank goodness only 25 miles!!
My heart cries for y'all…to quote a song, slightly altered. We're all going to miss Charlie and Sam and Tues/Thurs posts that have and do brighten y/our days. No denying t'wil be tough for all but the moments, the gatherings, the reunions will be ever so much sweeter and wonderful! We're here for you! Cheers~
I'm sad they are moving farther away from you! You are brave and positive and I bet you will see them no matter what! I keep hoping and praying my west coast daughter moves to the east coast. My son in law is job hunting and I hold my breath each time I hear any updates.
With Honore, my heart (and eyes) are crying for you. It is bittersweet for all of you, I am sure.
I've been thinking of you, Mary, and how this news will impact your life with Charlie and Sam. But it's so good for Katie — to be close to her work. Anything that makes life easier for a mom is a good thing! I know you'll find ways to make this work out for you. Holding you all in my heart through this transition. XO

Quite a change for everyone. It is so clear how much you enjoy your time with these little guys, and I know a new routine will come in time – it sounds like there are a lot of great things to do in Atlanta – and I see some fun adventures in the future. Hope the move goes well and that everyone settles in easily. Sending hugs!
Good news for Katie, but that's quite a change for you (and for us!). Sending good wishes to the boys as they learn their new routines and the footprint of their new home. You'll surely be called on to be a happy face in all the shifting and changing.
Best of luck to Katie and her family in their transition to a new home and routine. It will definitely reduce some stress for her. She will also love being close to so many things to do. We moved 2 1/2 years ago to be closer to town and it really is nice. I am certain you will work out a new routine that works for you.
It will be a big change, but happy [unstressed] Mama= happy unstressed small people. I don't miss my commute AT ALL, one of the best decisions we've made. Getting into a new groove will take no time at all!
