2017 has given me the gift of Valentine’s Day and Pi Day with my favorite toddler. A BIG Thank You to Bonny for alerting me to this double goodness and then sharing a delicious recipe for Apple Hand Pies.
I’m honestly not sure Charlie even knew about Pie before today (and I’m positive he still doesn’t know about Pi) – but I think he might remember now! We followed the recipe pretty much as written (except that I bought Pillsbury pie crusts). We peeled and chopped apples and then cooked them in butter with a little sugar and cinnamon. Charlie kept a healthy distance from the stove.
And was happy to find a spoon to put the filling into the waiting crusts.
Of course he loved watching the baking.

Pi Day is still relatively new for me. I learned about it from Katie and Sara who both took pies into math class during high school. I guess it’s a big deal at Georgia Tech, too. I got a big kick out of their Instagram feed today, giving away pies. The rest of my Instagram feed has been (mostly) full of knitting, pies and snow. Of course on any day it’s mostly full of knitting. The pies are fun. and for all of you with snow, I wish I could share one of our pies with you! Stay warm!

This makes my day that you are teaching Charlie about the joys of pi/e early on! His apron and chef hat help him look even more adorable than usual. Cooking and baking are really life skills, and he will always remember learning these things with Marmie!
My daughter and I stopped for gluten free pie after work. Then I picked up a small pie for hubby. My girls love math and got a kick out of having a gramma with a PI birthday. Today would have been mom's 88th birthday. Can't wait until I can share pi(e) day with my tiny person.
Pi Day is a thing at Epic, too! They put invites on everyone's calendar to come eat pie at 1:59 PM (3.14159).
Charlie is so cute and looks like a ton of fun to have helping celebrate pi day 🙂

Yay for Pi Day! Charlie looks way too cute in his apron and hat. He will remember learning to cook with you and that is awesome. I ended up having a day at home thanks to the snow, so I made a raspberry pie (and baked bread and made soup for dinner!!). Glad you enjoyed your day.

Well, when I hear Pi Day my brain goes immediately to dear dear Elizabeth Zimmermann – her Pi Shawl is a timeless (and brilliant) treasure! Knitters win the pi contest every single time! Oh, and Charlie in that chef's hat… LOVE LOVE LOVE!
