Currents | March 2016.

the cherry tree in our cul-de-sac is nearly ready to explode!

Remembering just how much I love spring, especially when it’s a little early.

Loving longer days. Yesterday we finally hit a 12 hour and one minute day. Having it light until nearly 8:00 is making up for having it dark until 7:30 in the morning.

Planning meals and activities for our upcoming family celebration weekend in Beaufort, SC. We’re having all of Daddy’s favorite foods and drinks … plenty of nostalgia and good eats to go around.

Eating salads – power greens, tomato, cucumber, avocado and oranges with a sprinkle of queso fresco and a little fruit balsamic. Tastes like spring!

Drinking white wine. Karen and I celebrated our first spring Wednesday at my house last night with a bottle of my favorite Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay. Today I’m picking up Picpoul de Pinet and a few pinot grigios.

Knitting Slope, pretty much monogamously, which might explain why I’m making quick progress. I’m just a few rounds from the armhole shaping.

Reading Oryx and Crake (kindle) and The Tsar of Love and Techno (audible). Both wonderful.

Listening to construction sounds at the golf course behind us. They’re redoing the club house and have a hard April 1 date to finish.

Watching … nothing much, although I expect I’ll see a little college basketball this weekend and I have seen Jeopardy pretty regularly. I’d committed to catching up on Game of Thrones to start watching this next season, but I haven’t managed a single episode…I’m not even sure where I left off (and I really don’t want to start it over again!)

Enjoying Charlie at eighteen months. He’s pretty much non-stop motion and chatter…except when he’s asleep.

Looking forward to New York…and seeing Sara.

Needing to book my annual physical and mammogram appointments (much overdue…like from last fall!)

Wanting a few pretty tops for spring and summer. Something a little more interesting than my boring wardrobe of linen t-shirts.

Letting go – very happily! – of the shop’s newsletter, blog and Instagram feed. I am still consulting on project ideas, knitting samples and taking photos, but it’s no longer “newsletter Thursdays” for me!

Wondering if it might be time to make some changes to my workout routine. …and as I type the word “routine”, I’m wondering if that’s what bugging me about it. more to come, for sure.

How about you? what’s current in your world?

  1. I bet you won't miss that newsletter! I do a monthly one for work and it seems like every time I turn around it's time to work on it again. Lots of great stuff going on for you right now, Mary!

  2. With any luck there's only a month of construction noise left :). I love these posts -.they give a real flavour of different areas of your life. Do tell us more about the chsnged you are planning …

  3. It looks and sounds like spring in your neck of the woods! We're supposed to get 6-8" of snow on Sunday into Monday, but I'm pretending not to hear the weather reports. I have many doubts about enjoying short stories set in grim Russia, but you, Kym, Margene, and Carole are slowly convincing me I have to at least give Tsar a try.

  4. Trying to finish the last little bit of my gin and tonic sweater so I can be completely devoted to spring/summer knits. Preparing for moves 2 and 3 now that 1 is finished! Staying crazy busy at work with all the purging I'm doing-good busy for sure! Need to do some serious house hunting for sure.

  5. Blue skies, blossoms…it's almost time for spring around here. Spring is trying very hard to come in full time. Hope you like Tsar of Love as much as I did. Your busy, having a great spring, and I'm looking forward to hearing more!

  6. @ 1:46 pm, 3.18.16: Sitting in Starbucks drinking hot tea with peach syrup ;-)) and reading/enjoying your blog post…plus creating my own long overdue one…a tale to share via the blog, soon…spring is nigh but first: more snow in forecast for Sun! Just wet stuff, they say…but…Enjoy the weekend…and the family reunion menu sounds like sooo much goodness!Cheers~

  7. I, too, love posts like this. The salads sound delicious – I'm really trying for more salads and vegetables and less meat in my diet. And I'm hearing more and more people say how much they enjoyed The Tsar of Love and Techno so of course it moves up my list. 🙂

  8. I totally mixed up my fitness "routine" last year (out of injury-necessity). At first, I was very grumpy about it all. But now, I'm VERY pleased — and oh, so glad I shook things up. (In other words, I highly recommend doing it.) Your blooms are just lovely; none here yet. . . I ADORED the Tsar of Love and Techno. Just loved it. (Oryx and Crake is very good, too — especially if you like dystopian stuff. . .) Happy weekend!
