Ten on Tuesday | More and Less.

Charlie is all about more these days. If you know baby sign language, you might recognize “more” in the middle of this story board.  This is from New Year’s Day, when Marc showed Charlie the horse game. and then had to play it over, and over, and over.

Today I saw more milk, more eggs, more kiwi (oops, sorry, that was the last one), more book (he likes to read most books at least two times in a row), more puzzle, more cheese and I’m sure there were a few others, too.
Which sets me up nicely to share this week’s list – what I want more (and less) of in 2016.
1. more real food. hopefully cooked by me (and/or Marc).
2. more play. and not only on Tuesdays.
3. more current events. I gave up news a few years ago and I must admit, I didn’t miss it. But this past week, when I mentioned to Sara that “I don’t do news”, she told me that wasn’t something I should be proud of. She’s right. Especially in an election year. So…I’m listening to Morning Edition and All Things Considered and looking for a few more sources. I’d really love to read something (vs listen), but I find it hard to read on my computer and I definitely don’t want any paper coming home. Ideas welcome!

4. more celebrating the good stuff. I feel like I do a pretty good job of celebrating the big things (birthdays and such), but I want to be more mindful of the ordinary things.

5. more reaching out.  emails, letters, cards, coffee meet-ups…

6. more music. and not only because dancing is fun!

7. more photos & stories.

8. less WIPs. I want to finish what I start, not necessarily have less starts! (and I really want to finish all the things I’ve started in years past).

9. less caffeine….and hopefully

10. more sleep. It feels wimpy to admit this, but I need more sleep. I’m better equipped to deal with life when I’ve had 7+ hours…and my typical night is closer to 6 (or less). as I type this, I think maybe wimpy is just another word for grown-up. We’ll see!

Thank you, Carole, for another inspiring topic. I look forward to seeing what y’all have planned – and to cheering you on!

  1. How clever Charlie is to provide you with the perfect Ten on Tuesday introduction! I get most of my news from NPR on the radio when I'm working in the kitchen, but I occasionally read the news on the BBC website. Just the facts, no drama! I don't think it's wimpy at all to admit to a need for sleep; I see it more as part of being healthy. Maybe you heard this on NPR yesterday: http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2016/01/04/460620606/lack-of-deep-sleep-may-set-the-stage-for-alzheimersWishing you more good nights of enough sleep!

  2. Love that baby sign language and wish that had been a trendy thing when Hannah was little. I watch the local news in the morning when I'm getting ready for work and we usually watch the world news at night. Depressing? Absolutely. But I like to be informed. I also love NPR in the car on my way to work.

  3. I love NPR and listen to their news over anyone else. I also listen via the NPR website as I can't hear all the stories when they play. Getting enough sleep is so key to healthy living. I get this lecture from my doctor every time I see him. 7 hours AT LEAST! He says 8 or 9 is better. I find that hard to do but 7 is keeps me happy. More Charlie! He's so cute and gets busier every time we see him.

  4. I get most of my news from NPR and PBS newshour, I don't have much patience with the hype & drama of other news sources. Sleep is good for you and getting enough will promote health, 7 hours is a minimum for me.

  5. Great list-I do my co-workers a favor and make sure I get at least 7.5 hours. Saturday mornings I treat myself to 8. I tend to get up a few times after I've been asleep for a few hours, but never have trouble going back to sleep. For 2016 I want to feel settled/at rest-no more moving-no more unpacked boxes-I want to enjoy my stuff in my space (not just a corner in the office). Also finish the 6 sweaters either on the needles or planned and knit accessories to through the summer-serious stash busting needs to happen! I read too much news-need to find a better source that leaves out the drama and hype like Debbie says.

  6. I read a little about the baby sign language – very interesting. I wish I had known about it when my children were younger. I can identify with your list, although I think I might go a little over board with the news sometimes. Another NPR fan here. đŸ™‚ And we all need our sleep. It is definitely something I struggle with – while my body is more than ready for sleep at the end of the day my mind just won't cooperate.

  7. I don't have a favorite news source and never actively seek it out, but I manage to stay somewhat informed; we have the NY Times on Sunday, but I may give that up in the spring when time outdoors trumps reading the paper. I really can't stand the sensationalism (and junk) that is the mainstream "news."I agree with Margene: MORE CHARLIE!! đŸ˜‰

  8. Your 'more' list has so many happy things in it, that you will surely be able to sleep relaxed and content :). I give myself 5 minutes to read the BBC website in the morning, and that's it, I'm afraid.

  9. We listen to a lot of "news" around here…mostly msnbc and FreeSpeech TV and the local radio station's all-day news snippets – only in the car mainly to stay atop traffic tie-ups, etc…maybe instead of getting the daily news paper, you try a digi version: your local and a nat'l, like NYT and/or WashPost? A thought. More audio "reading" is on my agenda…and I love the collection of Charlie "more" pics. Wondering if Dolly knows baby SL? I'll have to share with her.Cheers~Cheers’

  10. I admit to O.D.'ing on news. I am a homebody and don't like being in a quiet house, so I have the news on in the background all day. Not necessarily a good thing, although I don't read a newspaper or any other news sources, so I feel as though it's my way of staying in touch with what is going on. Some days I just have to turn it off or look for reruns of The Golden Girls! đŸ˜‰
