Knitting Resolutions for 2014.

…yep, I made some! and since one of those resolutions is to blog about my knitting, I figured it would make sense to share the whole list. Here goes:

1. Update Ravelry as I knit, including photos. I had been really good about this and I need to get back into the habit. Not only are the notes helpful when I’m asked about my projects, the photos are fun to share (and helpful).

I made this little set over the weekend and I’ll be blogging about it for the shop later today. It’s a baby gift, knit with yarn I bought in 2013…so count one for others (#3) and one for stash (#4)

2. Blog about knitting, both here and for the shop.

3. One-for-one for myself and for others.

4. One-for-one for stash projects and new yarn purchases. I am counting WIPs and hibernating projects as stash in the hopes that motivates me to finish them! But this is still going to be hard – I work at a yarn shop! And five days into 2014, I’ve already bought yarn for one project… so I need to start something with stash or finish one of those WIPs to balance that out!

5. Knit more cowls and shawls (and fewer sweaters) for myself. Getting to wearability here, I find I’m wearing my accessory pieces more than my sweaters – even in winter. Of course I have at least six sweater’s worth of stash (and one WIP); we’ll see how this goes!

6. Knit myself a hat and mittens to wear when I walk Holly. This has been on my to-do list since 2010 – and I am finally going to make it happen, hopefully this month, but for sure in February (and yes, I’ve got plenty of yarn in my stash, so that’s a help).

7. Finish all my WIPs and hibernating projects. I have one sweater (for me) on the needles and a handful of hibernating projects, most of which are socks. Here are the hibernating projects – see what I mean about the photos?

So there you have it – not too long of a list, and certainly do-able. I’m hoping it gets me into some better habits about what I knit and for whom. Are you resolving anything about your knitting this year?

  1. Good luck to you – though I have to say that I find your list very doable.I know your problem with new stash though – I work in a yarn store on Sundays, and it's beyond tempting!

    1. Thanks, Bridget – of course I thought last year's list was very doable…and I didn't do it! I really waffled about the stash/new yarn one and decided maybe I'd knit more stash if I did it this way. At least that's my hope! (because I certainly don't plan to buy less!)

  2. What an excellent list! (And much like my own.) I worked at finishing WIPs last year . . . and I'm now down to only one. This year, I'm trying to buy ZERO yarn (because I had a bad buying year last year).

    1. I did OK on the buying and actually reduced my WIP pile more by frogging than by knitting. of course now I have more yarn in stash, but a few of those frogged projects will become something beautiful…this year!

  3. Your list is very, very doable. You'll love mittens and a hat for your walks. There is nothing like the warmth of knitting. Every time I start something I feel a strong obligation to it and it keeps me from wanting to start anything else. If I have more than 2 things on the needles I feel strangled, therefore, I have no WIPs, no UFOs. Of course, I don't work in a yarn shop!I resolve to knit what I want when I want, but as you can see above…only after one project is finished. 🙂

    1. Margene, I hope you're right – I have yet to keep knitting resolutions! We had our coldest day in years today (and tomorrow is going to be even colder) and I've been daydreaming about the hat and mittens all day. I think I'm going to post a poll here to get y'all to help me decide what to knit. (and I am down to one WIP right now… I am planning to start two more projects this week, but they are both in support of the LYS – and hopefully my WIP will still get finished soon!)

  4. i'm with you on ALL these, may we can help keep each other accountable. i LOVE the hat and mitts-so cute. oh, i found a doozy of a mess up on my old town-i'll be blogging about it, cause it's THAT horrific- gah. i think 2014 is going to be a great year for knitting.

  5. I should resolve to deal with the WIPs, whether to just rip or actually finish. It's kind of scary the number I have. And regarding the hat for the dog walk…I knit one, gave it away to a friend of Dan's but started Thicket from the new Wool People yesterday. It's so cold and I need a new hat! So go for it Mary, maybe we'll jinx the weather to warm up!
